creating an in-site blog

The use of a blog makes it possible for web site owners to amend a specific page of their site, e.g. a specials page which they can change as often as they like. This page is an example of a blog in practice. It has been created using the free BLOGGER site, as follows:

  1. Establishing a GOOGLE account at https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount
  2. Logging into the BLOGGER site (http://www.blogger.com/) with your GOOGLE user name (e.g. barry@barryhickman.com.au) and password (e.g. Armybuddy56).
  3. Creating a blog including the specific details of the site to host the blog, ftp details and the like. A template is also needed to get the blog to display, as an integral part of the site.

Once this technical stuff has been completed, the site owner can amend the blogger page themselves, as often as they like, using:

  • the BLOGGER's compiler interface to input the data both text and images and
  • the intergrated FTP function to publish the new or amended data to the web site.

One blog entry can be published, or multiple blog entries published, on the one page of the site. Individual entries can then be amended, deleted or added. If desired multiple blogs on the one site can be created, e.g. news, specials or whatever.

You can even upload images but control over how and where they display in the blog is somewhat limited.

The complier interface includes the following capabilities:
  1. Eight different font selections,
  2. Tex size and Colour variations,
  3. Bold and italic options,
  4. Insert a hyper link to a web site, e.g. http://www.abacuswebworks.com.au/,
  5. Left, centre, right and both justification,
  6. Dot points and block quotes and
  7. Spelling checker.
As you compile your post, you can save it as a draft. Once completed you can publish it immediately, using the public post button.
